PEACE IN BATON ROUGE 3/25/2011

While in Baton Rouge we stopped to relax a little and see some sights. One of the places we decided to see was a swamp area. We found one that was managed as an educational center and felt right at home with the staff and the trails. Felt like being on Outdoor Ed. Cajun style. We leisurely took several hours on a couple mile meandering trail and boardwalk through the swamp.
It was amazing! It looked just like the swamps we have seen in movies and pictures in books! We both shuddered at the thought of people living in these areas centuries ago!
There were some dryer areas as well, but there were tons of creepy crawly things in there too!!
Ann took tons of pictures of the flora and fauna, but because this Google Blogger system has been on the fritz lately, I will seriously limit what I post.
This little guy was crossing the trail when we cam upon him.
These little guys were being raised in captivity to be released at a later date.
This little guy was doing some serious swimming when we came upon him about a foot from us.
Wayne had to wade out in the swamp a little to get to where there were some National Geographic type photographers with major cameras shooting this newly hatched moth as he stretched and pumped fluid into his unfolding wings. Wayne felt kind of stupid with his little camera, but the shot turned our well anyway.
This was quite a posing turtle. He was here when we entered the preserve and was still there when we left!
Anyway, it was a relaxing respite from the big city and some of the interestingly rude people we had met recently!
