TORNADO SCARE!! 6/11/2011

One thing we have learned about the south and the east is that the weather is different here!  It is beautiful here, but when they say take cover, they really mean it.  Severe weather can crop up at the drop of a hat and severe means serious business.
While watching TV on Saturday evening, they interrupted the program with a weather warning and said that our area was under a tornado watch.  A few minutes later they began telling us to take shelter because there was strong indication that a tornado could touch down any minute.
We gathered a few things and headed towards the bathrooms.  On the way we watched the clouds and they were going 3 different directions at the same time.  Spooky!  But we saw many people headed the opposite direction and upon questioning them found that we were supposed to gather at the rec hall in the downstairs bathrooms.  We got our truck and picked up a stranded single lady and joined the crowd.
We gathered in the men's bathroom.
It was a rather somber, quiet crowd.
Ann went and investigated outside and by now it was pouring down rain and many people were gathered in several bathrooms and hallways.
Wayne settled down to keeping some kids occupied by playing Black Jack with them.
After a couple hours, the warning was passed, though it was still very stormy, we headed back to the trailer.  We monitored the weather station through the evening and watched the storms pass.  We were told that two tornadoes touched down in nearby areas.
Interesting evening, but all is well.

  1. Oh my goodness! I would be going nuts. I actually have nightmares about tornados and I don't live and never have lived anywhere where they normally happen! I'm glad you guys are okay and that nothing touched down where you are! Stay safe!

Happiness is when a tornado warning doesn't become a tornado reality... right? =]

  2. We live in earthquake territory -- a little one woke me up at 2 AM last night -- and are trying to get used to that. Glad your scare was a little one and not a big one.

It's so fun to hear from you guys -- the cutest retirees ever, possibly. When I got your message I was just home from a 8 year-old's baptism and remembered that you spoke at my baptism, not quite 30 years ago. Goes by so fast, doesn't it? Glad to see you and Ann enjoying life and what a gorgeous bunch of grandchildren!

  4. O.K here it is the 21st of June and not posts. Hope you are having fun and not in the Land of Oz with Todo!

Love to see where you go and what you do, but I keep thinking, there's no place like home!

You guys are nomads so are used to it...I am a creature of habit and stay close to my habitat!

Have fun, stay safe and try to stay out of those bathrooms!
