LANCASTER COUNTY OUTING 6/18/2011

We escaped from the wild beasts of Thousand Trails to spend a day in the countryside of Lancaster County.

Several covered bridges of days gone by got us in a nostalgic mood, thinking of Wayne's grandfather and back many generations that lived and farmed in this area.

It was amazing to look at the construction of how this sturdy bridge was put together. That's why it has stood the test of time so well!

This mill was where generations of the local farmers brought their grains to be milled.

The Amish people have been here for hundreds of years. Their farms are beautiful and so orderly!

We stopped at one Amish farm and bought some of their workmanship. It was fascinating visiting with the farmer there!

Leaving an orderly Amish Farm.

Amish garage!

We then spent several hours doing family history research at the Amish Historical Society.

Then we crossed the Susquehanna River to York County and found the cemetery where Wayne's grandfather and several other ancestors were buried.

Here was the name of the cemetery.

Then we finshed the day with some ice cream.
