COWS AND FAMILY 1/24/2012

Plans change, life happens, goals are altered, some things are added to the plan, some things deleted.  It doesn't matter whether we are living in a house in a stationary life or mobile and on wheels.  Life is full of decisions and adaptations.  Thus has been our last several weeks.  Is it bad?  No, just opportunities for rethinking things.
We had planned to be in Southern California by now, but the last three weeks have been spent in the Hollister/Gilroy, California area.  Matter of fact, as we looked at the calendar the other night, we have been in the Bay Area since late October.  Not that we mind, it's been good.  Just different than we planned.
A couple weeks ago we learned that Betty Huff (Ann's deceased father's wife) had passed away.  We left our trailer and headed to Redding for a couple days to attend the funeral.
Here we are sitting with Ann's brother and his wife, Karen at the luncheon after the memorial service.
Betty's four sons, L-R; Mark, Richard, Tony and Steve, have been friends of the Huff family since the early 1960's.  It was good to see them all again.  Though, we would have liked it to be under happier circumstances.
We have spent the last couple weeks trying to sit tight and conserve funds in preparation for future travel needs.  Ann has been knitting a blessing blanket for a new grandchild that will make his arrival in July, reading a lot about our church and its beginning years and doing a little shopping.
The ranch next to the San Benito Thousand Trails Preserve where we are currently staying brought in several thousand cattle to fatten up on the section of land behind us.  They were herded by our trailer for about an hour.
Modern Cowboys apparently do not ride horses any more. There were several 4x4 mounted cowboys moving and controlling the heard.  The cattle doge were fascinating to watch work.  They did not have the advantage of the 4-wheelers though.
Wayne has been exercising daily and working on Family History research.  It is special to round up family data and thus get to know the people in the pictures.  Wayne's Grandpa and Grandma Cowley and Great Grandpa and Great Grandma Cowley are in this picture taken in Cleveland, Ohio.  Two of Wayne's cousins, Chick and Tom are working on identifying most everybody here.  Joan, Donna, Ginger.... can you identify all of them?
This family portrate is of Wayne's family too.  Clockwise starting at noon; Leo Thomas Cowley, John Palmer Cowley, Lillian Emma Henrietta Brown Cowley, Allyn Claude Cowley, Donald Lee Cowley. This around 1919-20 in Pasadena, California.
Where from here do we go?  The next week we will have our son and his wife from New York out for a visit and we will go see the son and his family from Santa Rosa. The plans after that was to head south, but....., we shall see.

  1. Thanks for letting me know when you add stuff! Love the pictures of all of us at the funeral. I can't identify any of your family, though Wayne. Sorry! Great pictures. Love to hear from you.
Looks like the pattern Ann is working on is the one that was GeeGee's favorite. Looks good.
    Miss you two.
