ROSWELL, NM 2/16/11

We stayed the night of the 15th in the same Wal-Mart parking lot of  and the next day we did some more touring of Roswell on the way out of town.
The county courthouse looked like a state capital building.  It was beautiful, so we decided to drive around the block and find a place to park, so we could go inside and see the rotunda.
In the parking lot we turned around in we saw this sculpture depicting Mr. Chisum who owned and ranched a vast amount of land in New Mexico.  It was a grand sculpture!
Then, after looking like complete tourists at the security check in the rear entrance, they sucumbed to our innocent looking faces and touristy clothing and let us in with our camera and cell phone!!  They even gave us a personalized tour of the historical court room.
Here is Ann on the floor below the rotunda.  Beautiful tile work!!!

This is looking up at the rotunda.
This town has many historical churches.
Ann likes to take pictures of churches.
 Guess who took this one?

 And this one?
As we left town towards Bottomless Lakes State Campground, we also toured a Mexican wholesale outlet store.  We have been seeing more of these as we head south.  It was very interesting, but the prices are very touristy.
