LOEB STATE PARK (In Camp) 7/11-17/2012

Loeb State Park, 8 miles up the Chetco River out of Brookings, OR was a favorite family gathering spot for many, many years for our friends and family on Labor Day Weekend.  The last 8 or so years, as families have grown up and we have had busy activities in other directions we have not gone to this memorable campground.  But, under the encouragement of our youngest son, Kevin, we decided to schedule a week for a visit.  Others heard of it and joined us on the adventure.  It was Kevin and Megan with their two little ones and some new born kittens, , John (Ann's brother), and his wife Karen with two grown daughters and a grand daughter, Mark and Dawn Gosson and two grandsons and us that graced our large campsite during the week.......
.... and Grandpa Cliff  (Wayne's brother) even showed up to entertain us with his tent setting up skills!
Our busy campsite!
During the week, activities included hiking (son Kevin and his oldest, Batman)......
.... rock throwing in the Chetco River.....
....more rock throwing......
.....tree climbing.....
...more tree climbing....
... safety lectures on tree climbing by Grandpa Cliff....
...and more tree climbing...
There was journal writing and relaxing and reading....
...and more journal writing by Megan (our daughter-in-law)....
...and Pineapple got into everything she could.  Notice the upper lip moustache from biting the blackened cooking grate!
Kevin and Megan brought along their new kittens that they found abandoned on Megan's parent's ranch.  They were so young they needed to be bottle fed every two hours and care taken to make sure they urinated and pooped.  That's Teddy Roosevelt on the left and Marshmallow on the right.
We spent ample time preparing food.  Here our niece, Jessica, prepares the evening fire for food prep and comfort.
And then the cooking begins!!  Chicken shish kabobs on the grill...
...campfire roasted corn on the cob....
...shish kabobs over the fire....
...and then feeding the troops....
...and feeding more of the troops (Marshmallow) with our niece's daughter, Robin...
...then making s'mores....
...popcorn....
...and after the kids are in bed, Megan slows down to read and study.
Then another day arrives and we start all over again, beginning with story time with Grandpa, Pineapple and Kevin.....
...and cuddling time with our niece, Sarah and Teddy Roosevelt....
...some morning politics and religion discussions around the campfire....
....and Karen (John's wife) begins breakfast preparation...
...along with Ann....
,...this mornings fare was Ann's famous apple pancakes...
...and John's famous eggs, sausage and bacon....
...but Kevin could not wait for the yummies, so he decided to steal from his daughter.  Got caught, eh, Kevin!!
Batman wonders if Dad should be stealing from his sister????
After breakfast, more discussions around the campfire.  L - R: John, Jessica, Karen, Sarah, Kevin, Megan.
And of course, there was always time for wrestling!
The days went by fast and soon it was time to end our time together.  But look at the other entries for some of the other activities outside of camp.
