LOEB STATE PARK (Beach kite flying at sunset) 7/11-17/2012

Kevin!!!!  I said we were going KITE flying, not KID flying!!!!  Pineapple is not a kite!!  You do not have to be like your Cousin Tim!!!
Pineapple escapes to go eat some sand.
Yes, Kevin!  This is how we fly kites!  Here Kevin is using a steel collapsible fly rod given to his Grandpa Allyn C. Cowley by Zane Grey, a friend of the family, when Allyn was a little boy.  The reel is an old casting reel that also belonged to Kevin's Grandpa Cowley.  This unit has become the Cowley kite flying tool.
The kite he and Batman are flying is one given to Kevin's dad, Wayne, by the parents of one of his students 20 or so years ago.  The parents were professional kite makers that market their wares all up and down the Pacific Coast and world wide.  The cow jumping over the moon, he was told, symbolized Mr. Cowley leading his students to higher heights and encouraging them to accomplish all their dreams.  Wayne flies his kite with pride.
Here John, Karen and Ann watch Kevin and Batman sore the kite to higher heights.
Sarah and Robin also fly their kite nearby.
Robin wants a try at it too.
Robin soars to higher heights, monitored by her mom, Sarah.  In the back ground, Megan, Pineapple, Karen, John, Ann and Jessica watch the two kites as the wind blows them precariously close to one another.  What fun!!!
And we come to a close of this family, friend and memory filled Loeb camp out by doing an activity that has become a tradition at Loeb with us....staying down on the beach one evening to watch the sun set into the Pacific.  It was great and we look forward to another time in the future with more friends at Loeb and maybe someday a camp out with all our boys, their wives and all our grandchildren.
