LOEB STATE PARK (a day at Harris Beach) 7/11-17/2012

While at Loeb State Park, we took a day to spend at the beach at Harris State Beach.  It was a perfect day for beaching on the Oregon Coast.  No Fog!!!  No Wind!!! And the temperature was a balmy 60 degrees!!  Perfect!!  Megan was amazed at all the beautiful monoliths out in our ocean.  "It's not like California beaches!"  We think she enjoyed her first exposure to Oregon beaches.  Pineapple completely enjoyed the sand!
Batman spent a lot of time in "his hole" that Daddy dug.  Looks like he had fun too!
Future Beach Bunny!!
The paparazzi was already starting to irritate her!
Batman made ample friends as soon as he began sharing his bread.
M.I.L and D.I.L.
Okay!!!  Okay!!!  Every Cowley kid has to digest their fair amount of sand!  Right Uncle Jared?????
Then Daddy had to teach his son how to jump waves.  The water was freezing, so Batman needed.....
.... a little loving encouragement, and then he was ready to.....
...challenge the waves on his own!   It was so cute to watch him plant his feet and with teeth chattering, dare the waves to come get him!
Then the ol' skim board came out!  It was too cold for Grandpa to brave the waves.  Grandpa started skim boarding when he was 8 years old and still participates, but only when it is warmer.  Last ride for him was a couple years ago on Flagler Beach in Florida.
Kevin had been skim boarding since he was about 5.  All our boys were taught how to skim the waves on the beach.  Here, Kevin demonstrates a perfect ride.  First wait for the water to come up on the beach and start flowing back to the ocean.  Then throw the board.
Run and catch it, carefully stepping on it in the center, plant both feet, keep your balance and....
...ride the water until you run out of speed or water or....

...you wipe out!!!!
Anyway, the end of a good day together on the beach in Southern Oregon!
